INTRODUCTION
In 2004, the third international Symposium on Heat Transfer Enhancement and Energy Conservation has been successfully held by South China University of Technology in Hotel Canton from January 12 to January 15. Many well-known scholars from home ( China ) and abroad afforded great support and attended the conference. Over 200 scholars registered for the conference, including the heat transfer expert Prof. Bergles, the editor in chief of the Journal of Heat Transfer and the energy expert Prof. R.L.Webb. The conference scientific committee have selected some of the best papers from more than 300 symposium papers and published a proceedings (including 200 papers).The PROCEEDINGS OF THE INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON HEAT TRANSFER ENHANCEMENT AND ENERGY CONSERVATION was published by South China University of Technology Press and the publish number is ISBN 7-5623-2019-5.
In January 12, the conference was opened and some well-known experts made wonderful keynotes speeches, the welcome banquet was held for registered attendees and accompanying persons in the evening. Then in January 13, and January 15, the members of the conference made the academic reports according to their papers. In January 14, the technical visits and sightseeing was arranged. The conference is aimed to be a forum for the vigorous exchange of experiences gained during practical operation and theoretical analysis of enhanced heat transfer and energy conservation, the contents are involved in the chemical, petroleum, refrigeration, power generation, and other process industries. This symposium has efficiently, rapidly, roundly provided the latest information on the status of the research, development and application on heat transfer and energy conservation, especially has showed the achievements of The Key Laboratory of Enhanced Heat Transfer & Energy Conservation (including three university: South China University of Technology, Tsinghua University and Beijing University of Technology) . It has also established the basis for identification of the areas for further research and development. This conference increases the academic level and the fame of The Key Laboratory too.
